So you think you want to play FASTPITCH SOFTBALL?
- Join the growing league of fastpitch softball!
- Tired of Slowpitch? Wanna bunt, lead-off, steal? Fastpitch is for you!
Things a player from the SLOWPITCH league must know before playing FASTPITCH:
- Fastpitch players are no different from you-- they run, throw, and catch. They can just hit a fast-pitched softball a little better.
- Batter starts with a 0-0 count.
- If you crowd the plate your next pitch will be inside.
- If you back off the plate your next pitch will be outside.
- You can bunt in fastpitch.
- You can steal a base after the pitcher releases the ball.
- On a dropped/missed third strike, batter runs to first and tries to avoid a tag by the catcher or a throw-out on first.
- You must wear a helmet when you're batting.
- Batting takes intense concentration.
- Fastpitch pitchers generally throw hard and fast, so, to keep from becoming impaired alcohol during the game(s) is not allowed.
- On a steal, LF should back up 3rd, CF should back up 2nd, just in case the catcher overthrows.
- Even though we use some slowpitch bats, fastpitch bats are different-- usually lighter and without a tapered barrel like slowpitch bats.
- Games are generally low scoring, so strategy counts.
- Metal cleats are allowed.
- Catchers wear full gear.
- Batters do get hit, so be prepared when you step into the batter's box.
- Baseline's are shorter than in slowpitch.
- If you catch, wear a cup. If you bat, wear a cup. If you play the infield, wear a cup. If you're planning on ever having kids, wear a cup.
